How accurate is this flood risk score?
It's a free, informational estimate built from public elevation, flood history, and waterway-proximity data — not a substitute for a professional survey, insurance assessment, or legal advice. The scoring weights are expert-assigned starting points and haven't yet been calibrated against confirmed flood zones (see our Methodology page for details).
What data sources do you use?
GISTDA for historical flood records (Open Data Common license), OpenTopoData/SRTM 30m for elevation, OpenStreetMap (via Overpass) for canals and rivers, and OpenGISData-Thailand for administrative boundaries. Full details on the Methodology page.
Why does "Flood episodes" sometimes say "history unavailable"?
We rely on GISTDA's public flood-recurrence API for that specific data, and our access to that resource is still being validated on their end. Rather than guess, we mark it as unavailable and calculate your score from the remaining available factors — we never fabricate a number.
How is the overall score calculated?
Three weighted factors: elevation (40%), flood history (35%), and distance to the nearest canal or river (25%). If a factor is unavailable for your address, its weight is redistributed across the remaining factors so the score always stays on a consistent 0-100 scale. Is this an official government tool?
No. ThaiFloodRisk.com is an independent tool built on public datasets. It isn't affiliated with GISTDA, any Thai government agency, or any real estate company.
Can I use this report for insurance, legal, or financing purposes?
No — it's an informational estimate only. For anything with legal or financial weight, use a licensed surveyor, insurer, or lawyer.
Does this cover the whole of Thailand?
Yes — search any address, anywhere in Thailand. We've also pre-built free reports for all 50 Bangkok districts and 16 popular tourist destinations — browse them on the Flood Risk Map.
Is it free?
Yes, completely free, no account required.
Can I download a PDF report?
Yes — after searching an address, click "Download PDF report" to get a shareable document for a landlord, agent, or family member.
Why is "drainage area" always listed as excluded from the score?
We don't yet have a validated public data source for local pumping-station coverage or drainage capacity. Rather than guess, we're transparent that this factor isn't included yet.
